Career Highlights:
  • Ryan commenced work as a young lawyer at Pikes in 2003 and has primarily worked in the Land and Environment Court and the Local Government area since that time. Ryan has prepared numerous cases for senior solicitors and counsel covering the broad range of the Pikes Planning Law Practice.
  • Ryan was involved in instructing counsel in a leading privacy law case relevant to Local Government in NSW relating to the interpretation of the Privacy Personal Information Protection Act for consistency with Section 12 of the Local Government Act (NV ats Randwick City Council).
  • Ryan has been required to provide detailed legal research and advice relating to issues such as complex existing use rights questions (David Crane and Associates Pty Ltd ats Sutherland Shire Council – Land and Environment Court Proceedings No. 10521 of 2006) and upon flora and fauna and threatened species legislation (Roach v Pittwater Council – Land and Environment Court Proceedings No. 10016 of 2006).
  • He has acted for interveners in complex litigation in Pittwater in which there were substantial geotechnical and flora and fauna issues (Larkins Holdings Pty Limited v Pittwater Council – Land and Environment Court Proceedings No. 10177 of 2004).
  • Ryan has also been involved in Supreme Court arbitration litigation involving contamination of land and the interpretation of special conditions under commercial contracts for sale (Gorcha Pty Limited v Clarke and Walker Pty Limited).
  • Ryan obtained an urgent interlocutory injunction to prevent works from being carried out in the North Sydney area that were alleged to be contrary to development consent conditions (Kevin Dixon v Stephen and Colleen Pask – Land and Environment Court Proceedings No. 40555 of 2006).
